THE BACKGROUND

In 2016 a handful of refugees arrived in the UK from the Calais refugee camp. A selection of these refugees got together to try to help other refugees making the similar, perilous journey. Together they created Hopetowns.

Through Hometowns they intend to build a database of both refugees and willing, skilled UK residents to be made available through a phone App. This will then be available for download by refugees who currently live in the Calais camp. Should any refugees find themselves in the UK, this App will give them a fundamental list of safe contacts who can shelter, feed and support them.

THE CHALLENGE

Hopetowns needed a logo and brand to help promote their new enterprise. They wanted it to incorporate stars and curved, but otherwise I was free to do as I wished. The logo was to be used across social media and printed promotions. As Hopetowns develops, the brand needed the potential to grow with it.

THE RESULT

I designed a logo based on the shapes of buildings in an urban landscape. I incorporated the star as a guiding light, and symbol of hope. The curve symbolises the connections built between people, and was added by request of the Hopetowns team.

I also developed the repeat pattern of houses, which can be used across Hopetowns promotions. This gives the brand the potential to grow and develop.

This has now been applied to the Hopetowns social media pages, and printed materials.
